Maya Couture on Main has come so far in the last year, and that’s only GBP/JPY - British Pound to Japanese Yen forex thanks to the amazing vendors, clients, and community that we’ve had the pleasure of working with. When I say that this store was a labor of love, it truly was. To be at the heart of downtown Suffolk with those that believe in building the community and clients who want to help small businesses grow – it’s truly meant the world.
Not only did we help brides find gorgeous bridal gowns, we introduced a new bridal line, Allure Bridals, to amp up our inventory and make sure that brides had all types of shapes, silhouettes, and designs at their fingertips. We expanded our bridesmaids selection to include Allure Bridesmaids, The Dessy Group, and Alfred Sung.
From the grand opening a year ago, the outpour of love and support has only increased from everyone around us – with brides coming all the way from Arlington and central North Carolina, to vendors from Richmond using our gowns for their photoshoots – it proves that people will travel to work with the very best <3 We are so proud to call ourselves that – because YOU call us that.
Here’s just a small sampling of all the amazing things that happened this year… and we can’t wait to share British Pound/Canadian Dollar with you the beautiful things that are coming!
We opened our store with exactly 31 days to do it… and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing friends and families coming to help paint the store, hang shelves, refinish bathrooms, hang our gorgeous chandeliers, keep us company in the cold when the heat wasn’t turned on yet…
But with all that said, we still opened on a beautifully freezing day, January 14, 2014 – and what a day it was… and night. The party (with images by Dustin Lewis Images) poured onto Main Street with amazing vendors and neighbors like Harper’s Table and Simply Susan’s bringing treats to keep the fun going all night.
The finished product was simply amazing. We couldn’t have dreamed the the store would turn out as beautifully as it did… a shabby chic boutique <3
We even sold our first bride that day, Sarah, who looked AMAZING in her limited edition Pronovias gown on her big day. Photos by Like a Dream Photography. Venue was the Woman’s Club of Portsmouth.
When we picked up Allure Bridals, we had no idea that we would get such great response! The gowns were used in photoshoots, brides jumped all over being able to order them – and we would call daily to find out when more inventory was coming in!
On top of that, we kept getting more and more photos of our gorgeous brides in limited edition dresses – we just chart British Pound - Canadian Dollar knew that we were onto something in our little shop in downtown Suffolk!
We had the pleasure of being part of beautiful photo shoots – with gorgeous gowns to use on gorgeous brides <3
We took it a step further – we gave back to the community, just as it had given to us, and hosted a Brides Across America event in July – we gave away 27 gowns to deserving women who had served, or who’s fiancee’s had served, in a war zone <3 It was easily the best day of the year – tears were shed, and there is absolutely nothing more rewarding. Our very first one-stop-shop bride, Beth, was married in July (and planned her wedding all the way from Amsterdam!). Her bridal gown, bridesmaids dresses, and tuxes all came from Maya Couture on Main! Another Woman’s Club of Portsmouth wedding, Dustin Lewis Images took some of the best photos ever (you may have seen them all over our Facebook page because we’re slightly obsessed <3):
Our second bride ever, Jen, was married as well, at the Water Table, with some of the most stunning photos we’ve ever seen from Bit of Ivory Photography. Her review of our store was beautiful (see below) <3
“My mom and I went to another bridal store the week before and had a pretty bad experience. We had an appointment and due to the influx of people, we were pushed back and really not feeling very special. All the dresses I tried on, I felt ugly in. My mom and I came to your store and it couldn’t have been more difference of an experience. We had the whole place to ourselves. Ashley was so lovely!! Every single dress I tried on made me feel beautiful as did Ashley. It was truly an amazing experience. My mom and I left there with my beautiful wedding dress in hand so very happy. And every day I think about the dress and get more and more excited with how beautiful it is. Thank you so much!”
We had our first spread in Coastal Virginia Magazine from one of our beautiful styled shoots featuring photos from Bit of Ivory Photography, hair and makeup from Behind the Veil, florals from Palette of Petals, bridal gown by Allure Bridals, bridesmaids dress by Alfred Sung, tux by Jim’s Formal Wear, desserts from Simply Susans, and gorgeous styling by Simply Perfect Events:
We also had the distinct honor of being voted as Couples’ Choice Winner for 2015 for Wedding Wire – which means that you guys all wrote us such amazing reviews that we ended up in the top 5% for wedding professionals <3
Here are just a few of the stellar reviews that we received:
“After a rave review and recommendation from my sister-in-law who bought her dress, tuxes, & bridesmaids dresses from Misty at Maya Couture a couple years ago, I decided to book an appointment at their Norfolk store to try on wedding dresses for myself. About a week before my appointment at Maya in Norfolk, I heard about Maya Couture on Main and decided to pop in without an appointment the first weekend they opened, just to see what they had–I wasn’t even expecting to try anything on. Misty was there to greet us and happened to be free, so she pulled some amazing dresses for me (none that I would ever have looked twice at on the rack). This was my first time ever in a bridal salon so I really didn’t know what to expect–and was actually a little nervous. Misty was so fun to work with and very knowledgable. I ended up choosing a gorgeous dress in a style that was was nothing like I had been envisioning for myself. Because of this, it took me a while to decide if this was the one, and Misty was supportive, honest, and not pushy in the least bit. In the end, I decided to go for it and I’m so glad I did!
I had such a great experience that I brought my fiance in for a tux today. I would highly recommend Maya Couture on Main to any future bride!”
“My journey planning a wedding has been an interesting one and Maya Couture’s service and knowledge definitely raised the bar. The staff was warm and accommodating for my large party of family and friend and their hospitality was impeccable. After purchasing my dress, I’ve ran into the sales associates several times and they are always friendly. I love both of their shops, the non “cookie cutter” style dress selections and everyone who works there. My sales associate Ashley & Misty rocked! A+ in my book!”
We unveiled our new logo and marketing material at the Uniquely Yours Bridal Show last weekend, and we adore the new cohesive look… check it out!
To say this year has been a roller coaster would be an understatement – but when I look back on it with tears in my eyes, I can only express the extraordinary gratitude that I have towards those that made the store successful. It’s my baby – and I am just so grateful to be going into another year of business with Maya Couture, and now with Maya Couture on Main.
